Why are the rates varied?: Rates can vary on a number of different factors! The rates will be negotiated between both parties before the work begins.

Can I get a per hour quote instead?: Absolutely! Per hour quotes can be negotiated and will be calculated based on a writing sample. A per hour rate may ultimately be more expensive than a per word rate, depending on the complexity of the project. Once the work has begun and all rates have been agreed upon, you will not be able to switch from one to the other.

What is the Rush Rate and how does it work?: Sometimes a client might need something in a tighter deadline than I would typically be able to provide. I may not always be able to accomodate a rush order, depending on exactly how soon it needs to be done and how many other clients I have at the same time, but if I am able to I will charge an additional fee. This is essentially a fee that guarantees that I will be able to prioritize your work while still supporting myself.

Are rates subject to change?: Yes and no. Rates will be re-evaluated once per calendar year to balance keeping up with inflation while not over-charging for services. However, if we have an active contract, that rate will not change. In other words, if I am working on your manuscript from November to January and the rate range happens to change that year, your contract will not be subject to the rate increase.

How do you charge for multiple services?: Services are charged per pass. This means that the rate is calculated based on how many times I will be starting from the beginning and examing until the end. If you elect to have two services done in one "pass" (either develpmental/line editing or line/copy editing), I will charge one combined rate. If you need three or more services, you will need to pay for at least two "passes".
